We design and manufacture our sails for long service life. We stand behind their fit, materials and workmanship with one of the strongest warranty programs in sailmaking.
3-Year Warranty — Woven Cruising Sails
Robship woven cruising sails are warranted for 3 years from delivery against defects in materials and workmanship.
This includes cross-cut and radial woven polyester sails and other woven cruising constructions specifically identified as eligible by Robship.
2-Year Warranty — Cruising Laminate & Performance Sails
Robship cruising laminate and performance sails are warranted for 2 years from delivery
against defects in materials and workmanship.
1-Year Warranty — Racing, Membrane & Downwind Sails
Robship racing membranes, lightweight racing sails, spinnakers, asymmetric spinnakers, Code sails and other lightweight downwind sails are warranted
for 1 year from delivery against defects in materials and workmanship.
Individual sail constructions may be supplied with longer coverage when specifically stated on the quotation or invoice.
5-Year Structural Workmanship Guarantee
In addition to the sail warranty above, Robship guarantees the structural workmanship of
eligible cruising sails for 5 years from delivery.
This covers manufacturing-related failure of:
- structural stitching and seams;
- corner reinforcement construction;
- webbing attachments;
- ring and pressed-eye installation;
- reef reinforcement construction;
- batten-pocket attachment;
- headboard attachment; and
- other structural components manufactured and installed by Robship.
If one of these components fails because of defective Robship workmanship during the five-year period, Robship will repair the defective workmanship without charge for repair labour.
The 5-Year Structural Workmanship Guarantee does not extend the warranty period of the sailcloth, laminate, membrane, UV cover, hardware or other materials.
5-Year Structural Stitching Guarantee
The structural stitching of eligible Robship cruising sails is guaranteed for 5 years under normal recreational sailing use.
If structural stitching fails prematurely because of the thread or sewing workmanship supplied by Robship, we will restitch the affected structural area without charge for repair labour.
Normal abrasion, chafe, damage, prolonged uncovered UV exposure, chemical contamination and damage caused by external equipment are not stitching defects.
Guaranteed Fit
When Robship or an authorized Robship representative takes or verifies the required measurements, we guarantee that the sail will fit the agreed rig and dimensions.
If a Robship measurement, design or manufacturing error prevents the sail from fitting properly, we will correct the problem at our expense.
When measurements are supplied solely by the customer or another third party, Robship guarantees that the sail will be manufactured to the dimensions supplied and agreed,
but cannot guarantee the accuracy of the measurements themselves.
Sail-System Compatibility
When a sail is specifically designed by Robship for an identified furling system, mast track, reefing system, batten system or other sail-handling equipment,
we guarantee that the sail will be designed to be compatible with that equipment.
This guarantee requires complete and accurate information about the equipment to have been supplied to Robship.
Failure, wear, incorrect installation or alteration of the boat's equipment itself is not covered.
Our Remedy
When a valid warranty claim occurs, Robship will, at its discretion:
1. repair the sail;
2. replace the defective component;
3. replace the sail where repair is not reasonably practical; or
4. provide another fair remedy agreed with the customer.
Robship's first objective will normally be to repair the sail whenever a proper repair will return it to its intended condition.
What Is Not a Manufacturing Defect
Sails are working textile structures and naturally change with use and age.
The warranty does not cover normal:
- sailcloth stretch or softening;
- gradual change in sail shape;
- UV ageing;
- abrasion or chafe;
- cosmetic wrinkles;
- discoloration;
- mildew;
- wear from normal use; or
- ageing of sacrificial UV covers.
A sail changing gradually through normal use does not by itself indicate defective design or manufacture.
Damage is Different From a Defect
The warranty does not cover damage caused by circumstances outside Robship's manufacturing control, including:
- collision or grounding;
- flogging;
- accidental tearing;
- excessive wind loading;
- use outside the intended wind range;
- rig or furling-system failure;
- incorrect installation;
- chafe against the rig or boat;
- improper storage;
- prolonged UV exposure while improperly covered;
- chemicals or cleaning agents;
- modifications or repairs performed improperly by others; or
- use materially different from that specified when the sail was ordered.
These exclusions do not prevent Robship from helping with repair. They simply distinguish normal repair work from warranty work.
Storm Sails
Robship storm sails receive the warranty applicable to their construction.
Where a storm sail is manufactured from woven polyester specifically for storm-sail use, the standard 3-Year Woven Sail Warranty and 5-Year Structural Workmanship Guarantee apply.
Damage caused by extreme loads exceeding the intended design conditions is not considered a manufacturing defect.

and determine whether the issue is a manufacturing defect, normal wear, accidental damage or a repair requirement.
Whether or not an issue is covered by warranty, our aim is to help keep your sail in service for as long as reasonably possible.
